How I Work
I believe in learning from history along with the truths present today. Investigating and overcoming the issues stifling innovation, limiting retention, and hindering growth.
Design Thinking
This is my go to process. Per Tim Brown with IDEO; Design thinking is a human-centered approach to innovation that draws from the designer’s toolkit to integrate the needs of people, the possibilities of technology, and the requirements for business success.
This approach has been around for decades, but it only started gaining traction outside of the design community after the 2008. At a high level, the steps involved in the design thinking process are simple:
- Fully understand the problem
- Explore a wide range of possible solutions
- Iterate extensively through prototyping and testing
- Implement through the customary deployment mechanisms
Foster Collaboration
Collaboration is the Key
I believe that the best results are done by the tribe not the individual. So I seek out and work to build partnerships and connections within and across teams.
Cultivating ideas fueled by colleagues and customers, using those ideas to develop backlog items to drive better outcomes for both the customers and the company. Collaborating all the while between those that are developing the end results and those defining what and why they need to be.
Within the more true agile teams I work with I love to work in a dual track manner as it seems to make it easier to be involved with any choices on the development end. Especially with any choices made during crunch time.
My favorite graphic about this is shown below.
